Yep, you read it right! The BEST smoky BBQ sauce that not only tastes god-damn delicious but is much healthier than the sugar-laden store-bought varieties. The smokiness of this BBQ sauce is next level, I *cannot* wait to share it around at Isaac's birthday in two weeks on hot rolls with my signature peach bourbon brisket, which I should really get around to the sharing the recipe for!
This wholesome smoky BBQ sauce is seriously ready in under 30 minutes and lasts for months in sterilised jars.
Try my tomato ketchup here while you're at it and have the best of both worlds!
Ingredients:
1 kg tomatoes, cored and covered in boiling water from the kettle for 5 mins, drain, cool and peel (it's really easy, the skins slip right off!)
1 large red onion, peeled
4 garlic cloves, peeled
2 1/2 tsp mustard powder
4 tbs smoked paprika
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/3 cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
3 tbs Worcestershire sauce
Place everything except sugar into a food processor and blend until quite smooth
Transfer to a pot, bring to the boil, add sugar and then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes
Adjust sugar or salt to taste if needed then pour into sterilised jars and seal straight away
Store in a cool, dark place for at least six months and keep in the fridge once you've opened a jar
