This cake is so gorgeous. Two of my favourite flavours combined. The sweet, honey-like figs with their oozy, soft texture and the earthy, buttery flavour from the ground hazelnuts is heaven together.
Whenever we have dinner parties, this is the cake Isaac makes. It’s his specialty and he has been perfecting it for a few years now since finding a very basic baked cheesecake recipe in an old magazine that he ripped out and stuck into his own personal cookbook that now has alterations and changes and scribbles all over it.
This year was a bit of a slower start than normal for me. It was pretty busy after Christmas getting my re-brand all set for January 1st and putting the finishing touches on my free eCookbook which you can download here
This cake reminds me of an old school vanilla tea cake, but WAY better! The process of ‘burning’ the butter is well worth the little bit of extra effort because the flavour just shines through each bite in this cake.
As you guys probably know, I absolutely love enjoying a hot drink throughout the day, and
have a huge collection of teas that I pick up from all over the place, whether it be while I’m
travelling or just ducking into my local supermarket.
It's almost Christmas and I've been busier than ever just like everyone else I'm sure! We have been spending the little bits of free time that we've had making mulled wine and watching Christmas movies.
This is a winner of a cake. Like an absolute, total, hands-down winner. A few ingredients, loads of healthy olive oil, magnesium-rich cacao and heaven in a mouthful! After visiting the olive groves at Cobram Estate last week I really wanted to try out an icing similar to one that the chef made for our carrot cake. I've always loved chocolate and olive oil together so it seemed fitting that I'd use it instead of water to make it!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and I for one cannot wait! It's my favourite time of year. Lots of cooking, and getting together with friends. Plus Michael Buble's Christmas album and 'Love Actually'. And decorating. There's literally nothing I don't LOVE about the festive season.
What's a birthday without cake right? Not a birthday at all I say!
I make my famous chocolate cake every year but this year I put a twist on the classic, pomegranate! It might sound strange but the slight sourness that pomegranate molasses has compliments the bitterness of dark chocolate so well. A total flavour bomb. Especially when you go all out like I have (well it is a birthday weekend!) with whipped cream and ganache frosting...heaven!
I just got back from a week away in Tasmania and it was ahhhhmazing! Everything is so pristine there and just so fresh. The produce was out-of-this-world and I really loved being somewhere that enjoys life at a slower pace for a change, seeing as I'm always go go go!
What a week! I feel as though it's flown by! And I guess it has - I've had my hands pretty full this week with lots of recipe work including this delish peaches and cream cake (yum!) and a new baby kitty, Frankie.
So as it turns out, it's not just me who loves lemon cakes! You guys had so much positive feedback that I thought I'd post the recipe for this zesty lemon buttermilk loaf here for you all to find :)
Carrot and walnut cake has always been a favourite of mine and it seems after last week's cake post, you guys love it too! I got down to business pretty quickly on this one because I had a massive hankering for carrot and walnut cake after we had been chatting about it.
The last couple of years i have coincidentally made isaac middle-eastern inspired cakes, and i did it again this year. i made orange blossom and cardamom cake with yoghurt and honey icing aka 'ugh! it tastes like morning fresh detergent' according to isaac's bro.
